How Much Sunscreen To Apply?
Maintaining clear, healthy skin can be challenging, Just like maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise can be challenging as life gets busy, maintaining clear, healthy skin can be as challenging. This comes down to avoiding habits that can cause irritation or breakouts. Here are some simple dos and don’ts to help keep your complexion glowing and blemish-free.

✅ The Dos To Maintain Clear Skin
Do be consistent: Stick to a routine that works for you. If you have not found one I recommend switching one product at a time instead of all at once.
Do cleanse twice daily: Wash your face morning and night to remove dirt, oil, and impurities. When my skin gets dry in winter, I simply wash my face with water and then use a cleanser at night.
Do moisturize daily: Hydration is key, even if you have oily skin.
Do wear sunscreen: Protect your skin from UV damage with sunscreen every day.
Do eat a balanced diet: Nutrient-rich foods like fruits, veggies, and omega-3s support skin health.
Do manage stress: Relaxation techniques help keep hormonal breakouts in check.
Do stay hydrated: Drinking enough water helps your skin stay plump and fresh.
❌ The Don’ts To Maintain Clear Skin
- Don’t over-exfoliate: Too much scrubbing can damage your skin barrier and cause irritation. If you have super sensitive skin, you might want to seek advice from your skin expert to ensure you won’t do any damage to your skin.
- Don’t sleep with makeup on: This clogs pores and leads to breakouts.
- Don’t pick or pop pimples: It increases the risk of scarring and spreading bacteria. Pimple patch works really well in terms of preventing me from touching my pimples.
- Don’t skip sunscreen: Even when it looks rainy and gloomy outside, yes, the UV index can still be high when it’s raining. Sun exposure can worsen acne scars and cause premature aging.
- Don’t touch your face too often: Hands carry bacteria that can trigger breakouts. I know this can be hard because sometimes I do it unconsciously. I have to make it a habit to wash my hands and use tissues before touching my face but it took a long time for me to have that habit.
- Don’t overload on products: Using too many at once can overwhelm your skin. Less is more. What we put on this inside is as important as what we put on the outside (diet, exercise, sleep, water, hobbies that can make us happy 😀 ).
- Don’t expect instant results: Clear skin takes time—patience is part of the process.
Sunscreen plays a crucial role in delaying skin aging and maintaining flawless skin because it protects your skin from harmful effects of the sun. Here’s how it helps:
Prevents Sunburn & Redness
Sunscreen blocks UVB rays that cause sunburn and inflammation. Avoiding sunburn keeps your skin even-toned and prevents peeling or damage.Reduces Hyperpigmentation
UVA and UVB rays trigger melanin production, leading to dark spots, freckles, or uneven skin tone. Regular sunscreen use helps maintain a uniform complexion. I regret not having the habit of applying sunscreen earlier, especially for someone who is living in Australia because now I am getting a lot of dark spots on my cheeks >.<Slows Premature Aging
Sun exposure accelerates fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. Sunscreen prevents photoaging, keeping skin smooth, firm, and youthful.Protects Against Skin Damage
UV rays can damage collagen and elastin, which are key for smooth and resilient skin. Sunscreen shields these structures, supporting long-term skin health.Prevents Acne Scars from Darkening
Post-acne marks or scars can darken with sun exposure. Sunscreen prevents further discoloration, helping your skin look clear.Enhances Overall Skin Health
By reducing oxidative stress from sun exposure, sunscreen helps your skin heal better, stay hydrated, and maintain its natural glow.
How Much Do I Apply? : Apply about 1 teaspoon of broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+ or more) daily, even on cloudy days, for consistent protection and visibly smoother, radiant skin over time.
I know for some it can sound too much and applying too much leads to greasy feeling that no one likes. What I usually do is to use loose powders to control the oiliness. On days I wear makeup, I use matte foundation or matte tinted sunscreen.
